O'Neil Bryan got the nickname "Elephant Man" by his classmates because of his big-sized ears. He grew up in the outskirts of Kingston around dancehall-artists such as Shabba Ranks and Bounty Killer and in the vicinity of King Jammys studio. He was actually discovered by Bounty Killer who put him in a group with other promising musical youths. After having distinguished himself excessively on gigs, the other members began to doubt his team-spirit and so he left the group to try to build a career on their own.
In 2000 he released his debut album Comin' 4 U on Greensleeves. Since then, he continued pumping out albums and hits. Many songs are based on dances that were popular in Jamaica as "Signal The Plane", "Nuh Linga" and "Jook Gal".
The latest album "Sweep and Dance!", released in 2011, shows that when it comes to Jamaican party-music, Elephant Man, is still the king. The songs "Jamaica", "How We Do It" with Bounty Killer, "Nuh Linga" and "Step Ova" are all full of energy and catchy choruses.
We can talk about Elephant Man's records, but it is quite another thing to see him live. On stage he really justifies the nickname "The Energy God". He climbs up on the speakers, dances like a madman and takes up people on the stage for impromptu dance-sessions. So do not miss to see Elephant Man in his true element, on stage in front of a large audience!
