Tony Rebel began his career in the dancehall-scene in the late 1980s. During a time when most jamaican artist were singing and toasting about "slackness" (sex, violence and drugs), he was one of the few artists who was a strict rasta and tried to spread positive vibes through his lyrics.

During the 1990s Tony Rebel had his biggest success. The album Vibes of the Times, released by Columbia Records, included two singles that broke internationally, the title track "Vibes of the Times" and "Nazerite Vow". Other great songs he had during the decade included the humorous "Fresh Vegetable" and the majestic decleration of loyalty "If Jah (Is Standing By My Side)". In addition to their own songs, he has been seen on a number of hits through the years with the likes of Garnett Silk, Marcia Griffiths and Beres Hammond.

Tony Rebel is also known as the founder of the Jamaican music festival Rebel Salute which have been taking place every year since 1994. He created the Festival along with the promising singer Garnett Silk, who tragically died in a fire accident during the Festival's first year. Since then, the Festival has been a way to celebrate his music and life. The focus is always on the roots and "conscious music", positive vibe and Rastafari. As a result, there is no alcohol or meat to buy on the festival area.

Tony Rebel is a ceaseless campaigner for positive music in Jamaica and he will not give up his fight easily.
