Like so many other Jamaican artists, Gyptian began singing in Church. In addition to teaching the ways of a religious life, it's also in the churches of many children first learn to sing and perform. The fact is that Jamaica has the most churches per square kilometre in the world. Probably, this has contributed greatly to the explosion of talent that has emerged from the island since the mid 20th century. In any case the church gave the singer a musical education which he interleaved by singing in his father's sound system.

After moving to Portmore, near Kingston, Gyptian got help from the producer Ravine Wong to make it in the music industry. After much work and some luck, he received his breakthrough with the 2005 megahit "Serious Times" which appeared on his debut album My Name Is Gyptian. The song even became more popular in Jamaica during that year than Jr. Gong's "Welcome To Jamrock". He followed up the success with several other big tunes, including "Beautiful Lady", "I Can Feel Your Pain" and topplistelåten "Mama (Don't Cry)".

2010 was Gyptian in the news again with "Hold Yuh". The song became a on and climbed to no. 77 on the Billboard Hot 100 list, which is a great achievement for a
dancehall song.

After playing at URF in 2007 this heartbreaker is back, ready to seduce us with his music again!
